Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit Responsibilities

The Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit (V2010 ISU) is responsible for protecting athletes, officials, the Olympic Family, Internationally Protected Persons and for security at 30 locations which include support facilities, competition venues and non-competition venues such as the athletes’ villages and media centres in Vancouver and Whistler and training facilities. V2010 ISU is also the lead agency on aviation security, marine security adjacent to Olympic venues and for the Canadian Force support to Olympic Security.

Media inquiries regarding these issues ONLY will be handled by media relations officers (MRO) assigned to the V2010 Public Affairs Unit. Our media officers are based in both Vancouver and Whistler to respond to media requests.

ANY MEDIA INQUIRIES REGARDING POLICE OR SECURITY INCIDENTS OUTSIDE OF THE OLYMPIC VENUES MUST BE DIRECTED TO THE LOCAL POLICE OF JURISDICTION. A LIST OF LOCAL POLICE MEDIA CONTACT INFORMATION IS BELOW FOR YOUR CONVIENIECE.

Methods of contact:

  1. Call 604-247-8600 or toll free 1-877-646-2010: The Public Affairs call centre will be open 24 hours a day and is staffed with media relations officers who will be able to provide information and comment in both English and French.
  2. Emailv2010isu_media@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. This account will be monitored 24 hours a day by media relations officers who will be able to provide information and comment via email, or return phone call in English or French.
  3. Vancouver Main Media Centre – a media officer will be available at the Main Media Centre in Vancouver during the day to provide information and comment in English or French.
    Whistler Media Centre – a media officer will be available at the Main Media Centre in Whistler during the day to provide information and comment in English or French.

We also have a media relations officer who speaks Korean and one who speaks German. These officers will be available as dictated by their work shifts. If you would like an interview in one of these languages, please ask and we will do our best to accommodate the request.

V2010 ISU website

Information regarding any V2010 ISU security incidents will be posted to our website at www.v2010isu.com under the Newsroom link. We strongly suggest media representatives subscribe to the RSS updates, or follow us on Twitter, Delicious, Facebook or Linked In. Any time a news release or update is posted to the V2010 ISU website, notice will automatically be sent through these networks.

If, and only if, there is a significant security incident at a venue, a media relations officer will be dispatched to the location to address media questions.

Local Police of Jurisdiction

If an incident occurs OUTSIDE of an Olympic venue, the local police of jurisdiction is responsible for any emergency policing response and any needed investigation. Any media inquires regarding these incidents are to be directed to the local police. V2010 ISU will NOT comment on any incident that is the responsibility of a local police service.
