The RCMP in British Columbia are now using Twitter to get information into the public domain faster and more accurately.

The RCMP in 'E' Division are now providing instant news updates on Twitter. You can follow us at http://twitter.com/bcrcmp and receive up-to-the-minute notifications regarding public safety concerns and events across the province.

Sgt.  Tim Shields, Media Relations Officer for the RCMP said, "We now have the ability to communicate directly to the public in real time.  All news releases issued at detachments across the province will be fed directly to Twitter where the information will be instantly available to anyone who uses this service".

For computers using Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 or later, latest policing news in your municipality can also be viewed by subscribing to a RSS feed dedicated to current news from your local RCMP detachment.

Shields added, "We encourage you to use our website (bc.rcmp.ca) and these emerging technologies to stay alert and help us solve crimes in your community. By allowing the RCMP to remain in direct communication with you, we can work together to make our communities a safer place."
