Burnaby, BC: On Saturday, January 16, 2010, the Burnaby RCMP received a report from a local movie prop supply company, that a “ghost” or "unmarked" “police car” was stolen sometime during the late afternoon.
The car is privately owned for use in movie productions, and is not a bonafide police car. The car is described as a dark blue 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, and at the time of the theft it was bearing BC licence 657PDA. The car is equipped with a functioning siren, red/blue emergency strobe lights in the grill, as well as in the front and back windows, and white strobes on the four corners of the car.
If members of the public are concerned when being stopped by a similar "unmarked police car", they are advised to continue driving in a safe, lawful manner at a reduced speed, and to call 9-1-1 to confirm the legitimacy of the “police car”. If no cell phone is available, then proceed in the same safe, lawful manner at a reduced speed to the nearest RCMP Detachment, Municipal Police Office, or until they meet a fully marked/police decal-ed police vehicle.
The RCMP stresses that at no time should anyone drive in a manner that is unsafe, or violates the law.
The RCMP is also seeking the public's assistance in locating and recovering this car. If it should be located, please contact the nearest police agency; Do not approach the car or any occupants.
