On November 7th 2009,at 4:30 p.m., police received a call from a female in West Kelowna reporting that she and another female friend of hers had been threatened with a knife at a residence in West Kelowna. The suspect, estranged boyfriend, 28 year old Michael Ryan BURWELL, departed the scene prior to police arrival. BURWELL started a pursuit when a responding member noted his vehicle. Vehicle, a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix with Licence plate 595 RAJ, which was last seen headed west on 97C at a high rate of speed . The pursuit was terminated due to public safety concerns.
It was believed that BURWELL is using cocaine and heroine and was high at the time of the offence.
At 5:00 p.m., BURWELL called the complainant from a pay phone at the Ramada in Penticton. Members attended the Ramada but BURWELL was gone.
According to the victim, BURWELL resides in LANGLEY, BC. Langley members attended his last known address and learned that he moved 6 months ago. It's assumed that he is of no fixed address.
At 9:00 am on November 8th, BURWELL called the victim again from a payphone on HWY 33 in Kelowna near Costco. Members attended and he was not located.
BURWELL is a HIGH RISK VIOLENT OFFENDER and is know to carry knives. PHOTO ATTACHED
A Province Wide warrant of arrest was issued for BURWELL for charges of Assault with a Weapon, Mischief, Utter Threats and Cause Pursuit.
Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating BURWELL. If either he, or his vehicle are seen, or if his whereabouts is known, please contact the West Kelowna RCMP office at 250-768-2880, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
