On July 24th, 2008 Rachata BURASITE, a British citizen, traveled from England to Vancouver with the intent of having sex with a 13 year old Vancouver girl. BURASITE was stopped at the border while in possession of child sexual abuse images on his cell phone.
BURASITE was arrested by RCMP and has remained in custody. As a result of an investigation by the Integrated Child Exploitation Unit and other Law Enforcement partners, on October 7th, 2008 BURASITE pled guilty to a charge of Child Luring, and on November 17th, 2008 was sentenced to 6 months in jail. Since BURASITE spent a little over 2 months in custody prior to entering a guilty plea, his sentence was considered as time served. BURASITE was sent back to England after being released from custody.
Police would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to be extra vigilant regarding their children's activity online. Strict guildelines should be setup such as never to chat with strangers and having the Internet in a common area within the household. The Internet can be a wonderful tool to learn and communicate with love ones, but it can also be a very dangerous place if encountering the wrong people.
