In BC, the RCMP operates at all three levels: federal, provincial and municipal in all but 11 communities. In this structure, we have the ability to mobilize large numbers of police officers from within the province and across Canada in the case of a crisis, and access a wide range of specialized units to tackle local and cross jurisdictional crimes.
Through the integration of a number of specialized police services across BC, we have established an effective means by which to deal with cross-jurisdictional crimes and provide specialized services. While the officers working in these specialized integrated units come from different police forces, they remove their shoulder patches and work cohesively as a team when they arrive in the unit.
The RCMP is committed to further remove any boundaries that hamper the effectiveness of inter-jurisdictional law enforcement so every RCMP regional police office and detachment as well as police agency in BC has the strength of the entire RCMP behind it. To this end, we will continue to work with our partners at all levels of government to research, study and implement amalgamated police services across BC.
