The Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit (V2010-ISU) is responsible for securing the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The unit is led by the RCMP and consists of members of the RCMP, Vancouver Police Department, West Vancouver Police Department and the Canadian Forces. Active since 2003, the V2010-ISU collaborates on security planning with the Vancouver Organizing Committee and many other partners, including all levels of government and community leaders.

During 2006/07, the unit continued its focus on planning, such as the early identification of security measures in order to minimize expensive retrofits postconstruction. The V2010-ISU also consulted on construction plans for the Sea-to-Sky Highway, which is expected to significantly reduce accidents during and after the Olympics.

Building relationships with communities, First Nations and stakeholders is another key focus for the V2010-ISU. The unit’s Community Relations Group hopes to create an environment of cooperation, and one in which the needs, hopes and concerns of all communities can be recognized and addressed.

As the fiscal year ended, the unit moved into its new offices in Richmond to accommodate existing and future staff. Looking ahead to 2007/08, the V2010-ISU plans to share information as appropriate with the public, through a variety of communication tools, including a website.
